This policy explains what personal data Leading Women of Africa collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the rights you hold over it. It applies to this website, the LWA community platform, programme delivery, events and communications.
Data we collect
Account and registration details (name, email, country, organisation, role), programme application data, event registrations, donation records, newsletter preferences, support correspondence and technical data such as device type and pages visited.
Why we collect it
To operate your account, deliver programmes, assess applications, run events, process donations, provide opportunity alerts, meet legal and donor reporting obligations, and improve our services.
Legal bases
We rely on consent (newsletters and optional communications), contract (delivering a service you requested), legitimate interests (running and safeguarding the organisation) and legal obligation (financial and regulatory reporting).
Sharing
We never sell personal data. We share data only with service providers acting on our instructions, programme partners where you have applied to a joint programme, and authorities where required by law.
International transfers
As a Pan-African and global organisation, data may be processed in more than one country. Where data is transferred, we apply appropriate safeguards and contractual protections.
Retention
Data is retained only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, donor agreements and financial regulation. Inactive accounts are reviewed on a defined cycle.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Requests can be made through the contact page.
Security
We apply technical and organisational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, and restrict internal access on a need-to-know basis.
Children and young people
Programmes involving under-18s operate under the LWA child protection policy, with additional consent and safeguarding requirements.
Cookies
Cookie use, categories and choices are described in the cookie policy, and you can change your preferences at any time.
